January 2012

Our apologies that our website is undergoing major changes together with a change to our hosting arrangements. We do not expect any changes to the site to be complete in less than three months. In the meantime if you have any queries regarding technical documentation for Rootes group vehicles, please email me.

For those who have offered encouragement to us over the past twelve years or  more for our project to convert all the manuals and parts lists to pdf format, here is an update (hopefully a conclusion). Most of the manuals and many of the parts lists have been scanned to computer files. Following feedback from those of you who have evaluated our early efforts we are planning to offer the pdf files in two formats:

The first we are calling the “deluxe” range. This will be a high resolution copy of the original Rootes document using the Adobe Acrobat bookmark system as a list of contents in the form of linking to each section of the document.

The second we are calling the “ultimate” range. These will comprise a completely revised formatting of the textual content of the document, together with very high resolution copies of the original illustrations (in some cases these are being redrawn to improve clarity), in a style more suited to the display characteristics of the computer screen with full hyperlinking of all cross-references.

Both formats will have unrestricted printing capabilies.

We are also looking at how we will distribute these. Besides creating “standard” cds to cover each model range, we will be selling the files individually and to keep production costs to a minimum we are looking at using a storage facility “in the cloud”, so you will purchase your file, then receive an internet URL where it is stored, then you will be able to download it immediately. A cd purchase option will also be available for those with slow internet access speeds, as most of these files run to several megabytes.

Wishing all “Rootsies” happy motoring in 2012.

Pete

Douglas Stationary Engines:

Recent visitors to this site may have noticed the inclusion of a sub-domain dedicated to Douglas Stationary engines. I have decide to discontinue this due to the general lack of contributions, however if anyone needs any help with their Douglas engine, please email me and I will do what I can.
